Homemade Christmas Recipes - The Scrap Shoppe

Welcome to week 3 of
a Homemade Christmas!

Link up your recipes at the end of this post.

This is the final week of Homemade Christmas, and I hope you've been enjoying it as much as I have!

This week we're showing off our favorite holiday recipes.

The recipe I want to share it super special to me. Its something I used to get to help my grandmother make at every major holiday when I was little. Now my little guy helps my mom make it. Its just not a complete holiday meal without some WATERGATE SALAD!

This is such a simple recipe with no baking involved. Its a great way to get the kids involved in the holiday cooking. AND you'll be able to make it in 10 minutes tops!

For WATERGATE SALAD you will need the following ingredients:

1 large can crushed pineapple
1 small box lime Jello
1 small box instant pistachio nut pudding
1/2 to 1 cup walnut pieces
1 medium container of Cool Whip
1 8-oz sour cream
1 cup miniature marshmellows cut in half

Side note: I had never noticed it before, but the pistachio pudding box has a recipe for Watergate Salad on the side. Its slightly different than my recipe, but if you are one of those people who can't stand eating sour cream (even mixed with other things) you might want to go with the recipe on the box.

Step 1: This is the hardest part of the whole job and the one you'll want to complete before you let your little helpers in the kitchen. Are you ready for this?

Cut the marshmellows in half.

Really, that the most difficult part of the entire recipe!

Step 2: Mix ALL of your ingredients in a large bowl (crushed pineapple AND the juice) and mix it up well.

And that's it!

Put your Watergate Salad into a pretty dish and be ready for it to be devoured by your family.

Its still my favorite part of our holiday meals!

  2. I have never heard of Watergate Salad before. :) I definitely want to try it because it sounds delicious! Do you think it would be good with little maraschino cherries on top so it could be green and red? :)

  9. I have never tried Watergate Salad, but my mom makes a Watergate Cake, that uses similar ingredients! I'll have to tell her about this.

  10. Eureka! You have cracked a code my friend. My husband's family had had this salad as part of their Christmas Eve dinner but NO ONE has ever known the name. It's just been referred to as "green jello" and the first year I spent with them, I thought these people sure do get excited about plain old green jello, but it was this. Thanks for linking up and now I have something to share with them about this :)

  11. I've always thought this "salad" was so gross. My mom would love this recipe, though. :)
