S’mores Trifle Recipe

This s’mores trifle recipe is the perfect summertime dessert! Just add PEEPS to make it dressed up for Easter.

S'mores trifle with PEEP bunnies
When you think summer, what is the first thing that comes to mind?

For me it’s time spent outdoors, especially cooler evenings spent on my patio around the fire pit!

And what pairs perfectly with a fire pit? S’mores, of course!

I know this trifle may look a bit… odd?

Those poor Peeps buried under mounds of chocolate cake and pudding.

But trust me when I say, it tastes absolutely delicious!

And its pretty popular with the kiddos.

I need to make another one and try to make it prettier. Maybe lots of fun colors of PEEPS making a ring around the trifle bowl.

But the PEEPS are definitely an optional ingredient for this trifle!

The PEEPS add whimsy to this dessert.

If you prefer a more traditional look to your trifle simply leave them out and still get that delicious s’more taste.

This recipe is a perfect dessert for Easter or any summer or fall shindig.

S'mores Trifle Recipe

S'mores trifle with Peeps Bunnies

Use Peeps Bunnies to make this s'mores trifle a fun Easter dessert!

Ingredients

  • 1 (18 oz) chocolate cake mix
  • 1 can lemon-lime soda
  • 2-1/2 cups milk
  • 2 (1.4 oz) instant chocolate pudding mixes
  • 1 (8 oz) carton Cool Whip, thawed
  • 1 bag semi sweet chocolate chips
  • 14 graham crackers
  • 1 (7 oz) jar marshmellow creme
  • 1 package PEEPS bunnies (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine cake mix and lemon-lime soda in a large bowl; beat until creamy. Line a cake pan with aluminum foil and spray generously with nonstick backing spray. Pour in combined cake mix. Bake at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes. Allow to cool completely. Cut into squares or crumble to use in the trifle.
  2. Whisk the pudding mixes and 2-1/2 cups of milk in a large bowl for 2 minutes. Let stand until set. Gently fold in Cool Whip.
  3. Crush graham crackers in a large sandwich bag into coarse chunks.
  4. In a trifle bowl, layer half of the cake, pudding mixture, graham crackers, chocolate morsels, and marshmallow creme. If you are including the PEEP bunnies, add them around the edge of the trifle bowl after adding the chocolate cake (I used 9 bunnies.). Repeat all layers (minus the PEEPs).
  5. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour befor serving.
  6. Decoratively top with more crumbled graham crackers just prior to serving.

S'mores trifle birthday dessert
I ended up not being able to use all of the 2nd half of the cake or pudding to finish off my trifle.

So I used those ingredients and my other remaining ingredients to make a separate trifle that was set aside just for the hubs for his birthday because he loves PEEPS.

I topped it with 3 of the leftover PEEP bunnies. You wouldn’t even believe how excited he was when he found out there was more!

I can definitely see us eating some form of this trifle all summer and fall long!

It’s perfect to eating out of a bowl fireside, don’t you think? We could ever toast some PEEPS over the fire!

It’s a fun way to use up those extra PEEPS from Easter!

This is what I'm trying to figure out !! I don't understand if you make the cake batter then add soda or if you only mix the cake powder mix and the soda !! Ugh

Combine the packaged cake mix with the soda to make a cake batter. Do not make the cake batter according to the box directions then mix with the soda.

I am sooo making this! I love easy trifle receipes, but I think I will leave off the peeps and use mini marshmellows. Visiting from Fireflies and Jelly Beans link-up. ~ Kimberlee at The Spunky Diva
