Thomas the Train Ticket Birthday Invitation
My first born recently turned 3!

I can barely believe it.

I still remember meeting my little bundle of joy in the hospital!

Now he runs circles around me.

To celebrate we had a train party.

Or as my son would tell you, a Thomas the Train party!

And I designed some custom Thomas the Train ticket birthday invitations.

I knew I wanted to make the invitation look like a train ticket, and I’m going to share with you how I went about that!

I found this wonderful pack of 50 Kraft cards and envelopes at Hobby Lobby.

(And you know I used a 40% off coupon!)

Instead of folding the Kraft invitation cards in half, my plan was to cut them in half and use each end as an invite.

You can see how I printed my tickets in the above photo.

Did you know you can use any of the images in the Silhouette library as printable images?

Just add color to those bad boys and print anything you like!

I designed the entire invitation in the Silhouette software using shapes, images I had downloaded from the image library, and fonts from my computer!

The tricky part was getting it to print correctly on my odd sized paper.

Luckily I had plenty of invitations to practice on!

Once all of my invites were printed, I needed a couple of tools to make them look like tickets.

Enter my spiral notebook punch and 1″ circle punch.

Before cutting the invitations apart I used the punches on them.

For the circle punch I cut a semicircle in the middle on both sides.

I also cut quarter circles in all four corners of the two fused invites.

spiral notebook punch
I used the spiral notebook punch to make the faux perforated edges on the sides of the tickets.

By just sticking the invite part way into the punch I was able to cut out small half circles.

Then I cut the invites in two.

Cute, right?

I love them!!

I like to dress up my envelopes, too, so I stamped a ticket and birthday candle on the front of the envelope.

I put my invitation in the envelope and all of the sudden it was just too much brown.

The train ticket wasn’t popping!!

I wanted it to stand out when the envelopes were opened by their recipients.

Then I saw this great tutorial for lining envelopes Mel posted at Mel Stampz. Talk about timing!

So I decided to line my envelopes.

Boy does that invitation pop a little more now!

I took a 6″x6″ paper pad full of distress patterned paper and chose a sheet for every envelope.

1. Measure how wide the paper needs to be to fit into the envelope and trim it accordingly.

2. Place the paper into the envelope. It should be snug and not too loose.

3. Flip the envelope over and trace the edges of the envelope’s flap.

4. Remove the paper and trim ~1/2″ under the lines your drew.

5. Place the paper back into the envelope and use a glue stick to attach the paper to the envelope.

I think they are so cute!

I love these invitations! I was wondering was your thought would be if you removed the text, featuring Galvin's special friend Thomas. Would it look to blank? I tried sending you a message via Esty but it didn't go through. I would love these for my sons 2nd birthday. Thank Amy
