Simple Braided Scarf Tutorial

Braided+Scarf+1
I love making my own gifts to hand out at Christmas, so coming up with something fun and relatively simple (cute doesn’t hurt either) is right up my alley for the holidays.

Scarves are definitely the “in” trend right now, and I have a super simple
Braided Scarf Tutorial
to share with you today!

This scarf is completely no-sew and can be made in less than 20 minutes.

The supplies for this scarf are very basic:

Yarn, scissors, and a clipboard.

For your yarn, choose 7 or 8 skeins in the color scheme of choice.
You are looking to select yarn in various textures.
This will help the scarf look more full and warm.

Cut 3 yards of each yarn twice.

(You can cut more of each if you like, it just depends on how thick you want your scarf to be.)

Braided+Scarf+5
1. Lay your yarn our straight and divide it into the 3 sections you will use for the braid.

2. Gently push the 3 “strands” of yarn together trying to keep some semblance of the earlier divisions you made.

3. Approximately 6 inches from one end of the gathered yarn, tie a knot.
It does not have to be super tight.

4. Attach the end of the yarn to the clipboard to keep it from moving around while you braid.
(You can use a heavy book or anything else heavy as an alternative to the clipboard.)

5. Carefully recreate the 3 “strands” you made previously in the yarn.

6. Begin a simple 3-strand braid with the yarn.
(You can use any type of braid you choose.
I would probably have used a 4-strand brad if I knew how!)

7. Continue the braid until you are about 7 inches from the end of the yarn.
Once again, knot the yarn.
You will want to trim the ends of the yarn in a staggered fashion so all of the ends are not perfectly even.

And you’re done!

There are so many ways to wear this scarf!
And its the perfect accessory for a plain shirt.

And with only using 6 yards of each yarn in one scarf,
you have enough left over to make several for gifts!
(And maybe keep one for yourself!)
