Over the weekend I shared my winter mantel, and you got a little sneak peek of today’s project!
When I saw these these adorable snow globe shadow boxes at Spool & Spoon I knew I wanted take my own spin on them. And I did with my winter deer diorama!
I started with an upcycled wooden box that, in a moment of bad bloggerness, I forgot to take a proper before photo of. But luckily I found it on Amazon, so for a before pic check here: T.S. Shure Farm MagnaWheels

.The first thing I did was cut off the strap as much as possible then painted the sides, inside and out, with Martha Stewart metallic silver acrylic paint.
After the paint was dry, I trimmed some scrapbook paper down to size and glued it down inside the back of the box.
The star of the show is this silver glittery deer ornament I found as a 6-pack at Big Lots back in December.
I can’t wait to figure out what to do with the other 5!
I position the deer in the box but did not glue him down just yet.
To add to the winter feel, I used small pearlescent cream buttons as snowflakes. I positioned them around the deer, then when I had them where I wanted them, I glued them down.
Now I’m ready to permanently add the deer!
I added pop dots to the back of the deer then laid him in the box.
I like that this gives him more of a 3D look!
An acrylic insert slides up the front of the box to make a sort of shadowbox.
I tried and tried to get the stickers and the adhesive off of the acrylic, but it just wasn’t working.
So instead I trimmed a piece of 12×12 scrapbook transparency down to size and used that instead!
It worked out great because the printed transparency adds to my winter look.
I added some fake snow to the base of the box then inserted the transparency and glued it down to the box where you see the arrow. Now I don’t have to worry about the transparency slipping down.
I tied a ribbon around the base, mostly to hide the little knobs on the side, but it looks pretty cute, too,
don’t you think?
And complete! I can leave this beauty up all winter long.
