Guess what? I sewed a new pillow cover!
You’re wondering what the big deal is, I know. If you’ve been following me for any amount of time you know I am new to this whole sewing gig. So I’m pretty proud of myself! No pattern, and the pillow fits in it. Yay!
But that’s not really what this post is about. Its about what I did to the pillow cover after I made it!
I was recently given the opportunity to test out the new Shape Tape™ from FrogTape®, and I decided to apply it to my pillow cover. And it came out beautifully!
Shape Tape™ is the latest greatest thing in painter’s tape. Like other FrogTape® products, it has the patented PaintBlock® Technology which forms a microbarrier seal around the edges of the tape. It is basically bleed proof when you paint with it and it is a-mazing!
There are 3 different designs that the Shape Tape™ is available in: scallop, chevron, and wave.
I used the scallop Shape Tape™ to create a border around my pillow cover. No boring straight lines here!
For the corners of the pillow I cut out a single scallop and centered it where the sides came together.
I pressed all of the tape down firmly to help create a good seal.
I painted 3 coats of acrylic paint mix with a textile medium for painting fabrics. When I pulled up the tape I was greeted with gorgeous crisp lines! I was so impressed! If you’ve ever painted on fabric you know it can be difficult to create a good seal with the material. Often there is seepage of the paint. Not so with this Shape Tape™!
For the center of the pillow cover I made a felt dahlia. I’ve been wanting make one of these for a long time!
I cut petals of various sizes, 6 for each row of the dahlia. To make them look more like a petal, I gathered the ends and ran thread through them and tied them off.
I used fabric glue to attach the petals to the pillow. For the center, I took a long piece of felt and cut fringes onto it then rolled it around itself. Glue the base of the rolled fringe to the center of the flower then fluff the fringes out.
I love how easy it was to dress up this simple pillow cover! And don’t the painted scallops and the petals of the dahlia really complement one another? I can’t wait to see what else around my house needs scallops added to it!
