Vinyl Cross-Stitch Wall Art

This post is sponsored by Expressions Vinyl. As always, all ideas and opinions are my own.
Vinyl Rose Cross-Stitch Wall ArtGuess what? I’m sharing another cross-stitch project! Surprised? You shouldn’t be! I’m finding ways to incorporate cross-stitch and faux cross-stitch everywhere. Nothing in my house is safe!

Today I’m going to show you how I gave my wall a little “tattoo” love using vinyl to create a cross-stitch rose. I am a commitment-phobe when it comes to home decor. I’m always afraid I’ll change my mind so I don’t like to make permanent changes. Therefore a little vinyl wall art is right up my alley!

AND there’s an awesome giveaway at the end of this post that you will NOT want to miss!

Vinyl Rose Cross-Stitch Wall ArtI started out by making a cross-stitch pattern to fit my needs. The wall the pattern will go on is narrow and tall so I wanted to create a rose pattern to match. It is also in my living room in which I use navy in my color scheme.

I ordered shades of blue and green to create the rose. For the lightest shade of blue I simply used white.

Colors of indoor removeable vinyl from Expressions Vinyl: Dark Blue, Marine Blue, Costa Rica Blue, Cloud White, Clover, Caterpillar Green

In my Silhouette program I created an “X” design by drawing 2 very thin ovals and crossing them over each other and then welding them together. I had a rough count of how many X’s I needed for each color in my pattern so I cut that number out with the Silhouette.

Vinyl Rose Cross-Stitch Wall ArtI rigged a ruler and a level by taping them together then taping the entire thing to the wall. This allowed me to begin the pattern straight on the wall, starting halfway up the pattern (in the center of the rose).

I applied the vinyl X’s like stickers, simply putting each one on by hand. It’s not as awful as it sounds!

Vinyl Rose Cross-Stitch Wall ArtI worked my way up the pattern. Any mistakes where simple to correct by peeling the vinyl back off. This portion probably took about an hour and a half to complete.

I held the pattern on a clipboard with the colored vinyl sheets tucked behind the pattern so I could get to all of the X’s easily while looking at the pattern.

Once complete, I placed a piece of wax paper over the vinyl and rubbed it smooth with an applicator tool.

You get the entire effect of the image. Couldn’t you just die? I love it! And all said and done this project took about 3 hours total to create. Maybe a little less. But TOTALLY worth it, right?

I’m already plotting more vinyl cross-stitch projects so don’t be surprised if you see more popping up around here.

What a clever girl you are, this is fantastic and genius. Never fails to amaze me how crafters can figure out better and better ways to do what is in their heads, then make it real you got your Silhouette to do even more for your idea. Just love your ingenuity. I printed out pages 3 and 8 for the pattern so I can make your rose on a new material for embroidering, Mesh, and there is also sewable cork and leather cuff bracelets to embroider. I will of course give you credit for the rose pattern. Wanted to let you know was going to attempt your gorgeous rose.. Your rose is wonderful on your wall with blue walls, so gorgeous., is quite striking and so original. Congrats on your fantastic project. If you a problem with my using your pattern please let me know.. Happy saze
