Wagon Wheel Planter

Upcycle a wagon wheel into a fun planter for the flower garden!

Wagon Wheel Planter - turn an old wagon wheel into a fun planter for the flower garden! I’m sure you guys have seen the amazing wagon wheel garden that was all over Facebook not long ago. It was SO fun and different! Each spoke of the wheel was full of beautiful succulents. If you haven’t seen it, just hop over to Pinterest and put wagon wheel garden into the search.

I’ve been on the hunt for a wagon wheel to call my very own since I first saw that photo. So far all the large wooden ones I have seen are SUPER pricey. Especially for something that is going to sit in a garden.

I was at a barn sale a couple of weeks ago and spotted this pretty little blue wheel. It’s metal and super heavy duty. Plus I loved the coloring and huge lack of rust. I knew it had potential and when I saw the price was only $25 I knew it was meant to be mine!

Wagon Wheel Planter - turn an old wagon wheel into a fun planter for the flower garden!Rather than fill each spoke with expensive succulents, I opted for sedum in every other spoke, and flowers in the others. It’s only been in the ground for a week or so. I can’t wait to see how it all fills out as the flowers grow!

I will update with a photo on Instagram in a month or so once the flowers have time to grow so be sure you’re following me!

The metal wheel should hold up better and last much longer than a wooden wheel which would eventually rot.

I tucked the wheel into a bare patch in an existing garden in my yard. I love the extra character it gives the space! And it’s a fun conversation piece.

I’ve seen a few small metal wheels similar to this one since I purchased it and most are pretty rusty, and the ones that aren’t are a bit more pricey. Overall I think I got pretty luck with this little find!

Would you put a wagon wheel in your garden?

This adds a really fun look to a garden, something that I have been trying to do. It is funny how this type of thing totally works as long as you do it right. Do you have any tips for where I could buy a wagon wheel for my garden? Thank you for the helpful visuals and for sharing this creative idea!
