I found this adorable flag basket last year in an antique store and knew it would be a perfect addition to my patriotic patio as a Flag Basket Planter.

I’ve been intending to do something with it ever since but it just never happened.

Wellllll, that changed over the weekend when the new BLACK+DECKER 20V MAX* Lithium Cordless Drill showed up at my doorstep.

It is B+D’s latest lightweight power tool and is perfect for little projects like this.

I know I’ll be using it all over the house on my to do list – you know the type of projects I mean… hang a shelf here, screw in a shadowbox there.

Little projects you set aside but never get around to because you don’t have the right tools on hand or the hubby doesn’t like you borrowing his (*cough, cough*).

I actually had everything I needed to hang this basket, I just never have.

My husband’s drill is a little big for me to handle with one hand and heavy.

Plus he works long hours so I hate to bug him to help me with projects I know I should be able to do myself.

The BLACK+DECKER 20V Cordless Drill is compact and lightweight and most definitely a drill I feel like I am in total control of, even with one hand.

And, being cordless, I can use it just about anywhere I need to!

Could this basket be any cuter??

Although I picked it up at an antique store, I doubt it is an actual antique, but I’ve never seen another basket like it.

I thoroughly sprayed the basket with a water sealer to protect it from the elements.

I placed a flower pot in the basket and a water tray under the pot to catch excess water and filled it with geraniums.

The bottom of the basket is pretty sturdy so it should hold up to the weight of the pot, which isn’t super heavy, even when the dirt is fully saturated with water.

I also already had a planter hook on hand, I just needed to spray paint it red to match the rest of my outdoor decor.

Now it’s perfectly patriotic.

Flag Basket Planter: Hanging on Vinyl Siding

For the record, that is not my hairy arm in the photo.

I asked my husband to be my hand model.

After all, someone has to take the photographs, am I right??

Since the hanger fit flush against the siding we braced small pieces of scrap PVC pipe behind it.

Worked like a charm!

The BLACK+DECKER Cordless Drill had plenty of power to drive the screws into the siding.

Since the handles on the basket hang the opposite way of what the hangers requires, I wrapped heavy twine several times around the top of the handles and used that to hang the basket.

I will keep an eye on it to be sure it doesn’t succumb to the elements, and if it starts to look weak I can easily and inexpensively change it out for new twine.

This Flag Basket Planter project that sat around for a year was finally complete in a matter of minutes!

Now I’m just waiting for the geraniums to really take off.

You know how little projects start to add up, and you just know you will get to them eventually if you only had access to the right tools?

Well, guys, my new BLACK+DECKER Cordless Drill is going to help me get those projects done

I just retired, and looking at so many projects around the house that this drill would help accomplish. My hubby's drill is too heavy for me, so I have to wait until he's ready and of course time allows for things to get done.....yep, that's what I do. This would be MY go to to get things DONE! Ahhh, retirement!

I am building window box planters, and Adirondack chairs out of pallets. I'm also debating whether or not to build a small table.

I would use it to finish a project my husband started and never finished!

OOOH, I would use it to put my crate together for my sign. I had my DH to cut up a crate so I could use it to create a wood sign to hang. So now it needs to be put together so I can paint it! Nest step!
