Upcycled Vase

Create the look of sophistication with out the cost!

Create an upcycled vase with a cardboard tube. Dress it up with pretty foiled labels!I love a quick and easy craft! This is one the kids can help out with if they want to. And you’ll have a fun and unique piece of home decor when you’re done!

I’m a known hoarder of things that could be thrown away but might possibly have a future life as something else. That list includes things like empty ribbon spools, empty duct tape rolls, and cereal boxes. But, I love a good upcycle so I keep a handy stash of these items in my craft room. This upcycled vase is just such an example!

Remove the top and bottom covers from the empty ribbon spool.

Wrap the top end of the spool with the gold labels with a slight overlap, half on the outside and the other half folded over to the inside of the spool. Use the pink labels randomly and sparingly as a pop of color.

Continue making rows of the labels, creating a scalloped or fish scale pattern.

Work your way all the way down the spool. Once complete, go back and add a layer of labels to the top and bottom edges of the inside of the spool. This will help the folded over labels stay down as well as prevent the cardboard from being seen when looking into the vase.

Florals are so popular right now that you can easily find some pretty gorgeous faux flowers to fill your vase. But if faux isn’t your thing, you can use this as a vase sleeve. Simply fill a drinking glass with water, place your vase over the glass, and add fresh flowers. As long as the vase doesn’t get wet you are good to go!

This is such a clever project! And I can totally relate to the hoarding habit. I just know I am going to need those things in my stash sooner or later! Thank you for sharing on Family Joy Link-up Party. Have a great week!
