Big Boy Vinyl Decor
Over the last few weeks I've been sharing some projects from my son's "big boy" room!
His room is nearly complete, and I'm finally ready to start showing it off.
On Saturday we'll put all of these projects together for the big reveal!

I've got an addiction with vinyl. Seriously, ever since I started playing with it earlier this year I find myself wanting to put it EVERYwhere. It doesn't matter whether its vinyl I've cut myself or store bought vinyl either. But cutting it myself feels very rewarding!
So when it came to some of the decor in my son's new big boy room, it seemed only natural that I would turn to vinyl to help me out!
(All of the images used from the Silhouette Image Library are listed at the end of this post)
Instead of buying or making a big busy border to go around the bedroom, I decided to create a border myself that was simplistic and, since I was creating it myself, would blend in perfectly with the decor. Since this is a fire truck themed bedroom, you can see what I decided to use!
I used 4 different fire trucks that I found in the Silhouette image library and made each truck a slightly different size. I cut the images out of red vinyl. I also cut out wheels (made by drawing circles in the program) with black vinyl.
I scattered the vinyl around the room randomly just above the wainscoting. I also had the fire trucks driving randomly around furniture and doorways. This was HUGELY popular with the occupant of this room! He had to go around and touch each and every fire truck. π
I continued the fire truck theme on the trash can just to make something typically dull a little more interesting. I used the same fire trucks from the wall border. I drew a thin rectangle under the line of trucks and welded the entire image together to look like a road full of fire trucks. They are cut on white vinyl.
It attempts to pass on my monogram obsession to my son (Totally kidding! This is obviously because of my own monogram obsession!), I put a white G on the black tissue cover. It just needed something!
I couldn't resist putting this alphabet collage on the back of the bedroom door.
I decided to use this tree and the word family to fill in an empty space in the photo collage. Since the photo collage features various members of our family it only seemed appropriate!
I don't know if you noticed the extra embellishment above my Seuss printable last week (download it free here!), but its vinyl! I took a square embellished frame from the Silhouette image library and cut off the two sides and the bottom. It left the perfect whimsical embellishment for the top of my frame!
I created this Seuss vinyl print myself using a Dr. Seuss font I downloaded from the web.
And since I designed it myself, I'm going to share the file with you for free! You can download it and use it in your own crafting projects. π
This is what it will look like in the Silhouette program.
Once you download it, you can open it in the Silhouette program and then save it into your Library.
This is a list of all of the images I used in my son's decor.
Just in case you want to try any of them for yourself!
Note: I did tweak several of the fire trucks to get rid of some of the extra embellishments. I wanted them to look more solid so some of the little circles and such on the body of the trucks were removed.
You can see the final room reveal here!

Question: I downloaded the font you linked to for Dr. Seuss, but it's not showing up in my Silhouette program. I looked and it's showing up in my other programs such as Microsoft Word. Do you know what I might be doing wrong?
Hi, Susan, for some reason some fonts just will not show up in the software. A "work around" for this is to create what you want with the font in another program, preferably a drawing/photo editing program such as Photoshop, where you can save the file as a JPG or PNG, then open the file in the Silhouette software.
Thanks so much :). Good idea!
Thank you so much for sharing! I got lots of great ideas from your post.

I am feeling vinyl addiction as well but I haven't taken action- its more in my head for ideas and I have no idea how to turn them into reality.
I saw you were talking about the Silhouette which I have on my list for Christmas... but where are you getting your vinyl? Do you have any other tips other than silhouette if someone like myself didn't own one yet? Love your ideas!! π
