Staycation Family Fun Basket

Staycation Family Fun Basket - Make your staycation more fun by creating a fun basket of activities to do!Spring break is just around the corner! My hubs won't be able to take off work this year so my boys and I are going to be taking a fun family staycation! Staycations have become very popular in recent years. It's a great way to save money, explore your own hometown, and spend time together as a family.

You can create a family fun basket crammed full of things to do without even leaving the house and shop your own home for the supplies.

Staycation Family Fun Basket - Make your staycation more fun by creating a fun basket of activities to do!To get this staycation basket started I started with a large plastic bin. I bought a few new items such as activity books, notebooks for doodling, books, and a couple of fun new drinking cups just to peak some fresh interest. I also added a blanket to spread out in the house to create an "island" of sorts for our new adventures to occur on. I also used some adhesive-backed chalkboard vinyl to create a label for the bin.

"Cure" the chalkboard by rubbing it all over with chalk then erasing it. Now you can write on the chalkboard without leaving permanent marks.

Fill the bin with the new items then simply shop your house for fun activities to add. We have a LOT of games, puzzles, and books. So many that we forget half of what we have. Now is a great time to pull those out and renew interest in them. Each night after kids go to bed you can refill the basket with new items from around the house. It will become a fun game for the kids to wake up and find out what's in store for that day's staycation activities!

Just remember, the purpose of a staycation is to take a vacation at home so just be sure everyone unplugs and has fun. Forget the chores, keep dinner simple, and spend some time together.

  9. I love the idea of a staycation. We had to do something similar one year when money was much tighter than we expected. Our kids were all excited about camping so we talked to a neighbor who was going out of town and we camped in their backyard, went on hikes we hadn't gone on before and had a blast. I could totally see this working for my kids. What a great way to start summer vacation or to spend spring break. Thanks so much for inspiring me. 🙂
