Ombre painted geometric heart frame with gold leaf accents for home decor.
This is a sponsored post for DecoArt for whom I am a Core Blogger. As always, all ideas and opinions are 100% my own.
I am of the opinion that you can never have too many home decor pieces. I like to change mine out, whether it be by the season or just because I’m ready for a change. I think that if you pack a piece of decor away for a few months then pull it out again it’s almost like you have a brand new piece! It’s like shopping in my own house. Which is awesome, because I don’t have to pay for it again!
With all the pretty flowers blooming outside right now, I’m in a mood to bring those spring colors indoors. A new frame was in order, but not any old frame. A geometric heart frame with ombre accents!
DecoArt recently came out with some fun new paint colors in their standard Americana acrylic line. I’ve been itching to use them! I’m going to pair them with this chunky wood frame I found at Michaels.
I create a geometric heart in the Silhouette Studio software. You can download the file here (will only work with Silhouette software). The heart is not quite square so it fits the front of the frame beautifully. I designed it to be slightly wider so I could off-center the design.
Cut out the heart on a piece of vinyl. Use transfer paper to apply it to the frame, slightly off-center and wrap it around the side of the frame.
Carefully peel back the transfer paper.
Cut the vinyl stretched across the center of the frame so that it will wrap the inside of the frame. Cut thin strips of excess vinyl as needed for the inside of the frame to finish off the pattern.
To create the ombre effect, I added some white paint (I used Snow White) to the original paint colors and mixed thoroughly. Paint 1-2 triangles in each color in the 3 sections of the heart.
Continue lightening the paint colors by adding more and more white paint after painting 1-2 of the triangles for each color until you fill in all of the heart, including the inside of the frame.
Trace the outer edge of the heart and all of the lines between the paint colors with a gold leaf pen. This will not only help define the geometry of the heart pattern, but hide any paint mistakes you might have made painting over the lines.
I’m in love! The heart is a perfect accent for showing off my favorite photo of my little guys. And the geometric shape is so trendy right now! And, finally, those colors have me swooning. It’s like the spring flowers outside made their way inside!
