Patinated Pots (Patina)

Create a faux patina look for terra cotta flower pots.

Did you hear that?? It's me *squealing* that it is gardening season once again! I love gardening. And buying ALL the flowers. But not so much the watering. But I power through to keep those pretty flowers alive!

I've been holding off on buying any flowers just yet. Every Mother's Day my boys take me to a local nursery, and I get to buy all the "guilt free" flowers that I want! It's AMAZING! So I'm holding out for the guilt free shopping. In the meantime, I'm getting my flower pots ready for the big day. In particular, adding a beautiful faux patina to some plain terra cotta pots.

This project could NOT be simpler and only requires a handful of items.

Supplies:
Terra cotta pots
Dazzling Metallics acrylic paint in Dark Patina
Paintbrush

Heavily load the paintbrush with the Dark Patina paint and make random patches of patina on the pots.

After the first coat of paint is dry, go back and add a second, again with a heavily loaded paintbrush.

Once you apply the second coat, go back a dab the end of the paintbrush into the coat creating a textured look. Give it a couple of minutes to dry then go back over the second coat again with the paintbrush (with no extra paint) to smooth the texture. It gives the paint a thick, almost foiled look.

I love how they turned out! And this is such a quick project. I had all of these pots complete in under an hour easy.

I love the punch of color on these plain pots. And terra cotta is so inexpensive making this a super affordable project. Especially considering I found the paint on sale at my local craft store for just over $1!

Now to patiently twiddle my thumbs until Mother's Day so I can fill these beauties up!
