Ornament Wreath & 2010 Christmas Decor
I finally made one of those super cute ornament wreaths I've been seeing
all over the blogosphere!
I wanted to quickly share with you how I made this because I think it was done a little untraditionally, and, admittedly, it took several days to complete!
I started with a wire wreath frame and covered it with red satin ribbon (in case I decided to hang it on my back door, I didn't want to look completely unappealing through the glass!).
I gathered some ornaments and glitter beads from Hobby Lobby (all at half off!)
I started gluing the larger ornaments down at random with my Beacon's 3-in-1. It took a little longer to dry using the Beacon's, but I didn't have to worry about the random strings of glue that come with using a glue gun.
I kept adding the big ornaments then filled in all of the gaps with the glitter beads.
I added a big poinsettia (its kind of my go-to Christmas decor... you'll read more about that in a minute!)
I love how it turned out!
I also wanted to give a quick tour of some of our Christmas decor this year...
You've already seen my hutch all dolled up from my black & white christmas trees post, but I couldn't help but show it off again!
I love poinsettias at Christmas, but I keep them fake. Then I can use them every year and don't have to worry about my dogs trying to eat them. (Are they poisonous or not? I keep hearing conflicting things!) I just love the poinsettia garland I've had on my mantle for years.
I love our Christmas tree! We did live trees the first couple of years of marriage, but I grew up with fake trees, AND I want my tree up for a full month (it goes up the weekend after Thanksgiving and comes down at New Year's), and the live trees weren't lasting long enough for me. Our 3rd or 4th Christmas we bought this tree, much to my husband's chagrin. 😉 He thinks its too big, but I think its perfect!
(Also, ignore that the top of the tree is not lit. It was working when we first put the tree up, then the lights went out and the hubs won't look at it until we take it down!)
I'll be sharing my favorite ornaments on the tree tomorrow.
I dressed up my stairway garland this year with some fun red glitter snowflakes I found at Cracker Barrel. I found a lot more of these snowflakes at Target in various colors (5 for $1!!!) and have big plans for after-Christmas decorations.
This picture is hard to distinguish, but I had to show off some more poinsettias. The garland is gold poinsettias with burgundy glitter poinsettias in the corners. It hangs over the inside of our front door.
I made our Christmas wreath years ago, but added the poinsettias this year (I know I'm sounding slightly obsessed!). I may change the bow next year to a red that matches the poinsettias a bit better.
We frame the front door with lighted garland. I think it makes for a warm entrance to our home during a cold time of the year!
I hope you've enjoyed this little tour of my Christmas decor!
🙂

Love your wreath. I am working on one myself for this year. Wanted to let you know a little glue gin trick. When you are done with your project, blast it with you hairdryer on the highest heat. Move it around slowly and it will melt all those little strands right onto your project and you will never see them.

I love poinsettias too! and mine are fake as well. Our tree is fake as well becuase it stays up from somewhere after Thanksgiving to the Feast of the Three Kings.
Your house looks amazing!! And this wreath? Perfection!
I found you through Polly Want a Crafter and I love this! I wanted to invite you to enter my $50 American Express gift card giveaway that ends in a few days! I also have a link party going on this week! Keep up the good blogging! -Dana

Your home is beautiful - and the top of our tree went out this year too >.<
You always inspire me! I need to take pics of all the handmade ornaments the girls have made over the years in school. Each one comes with its own special memory and now they have their own (tiny) tree they go on.
I'm totally stashing this idea away for next year! 🙂
WOW! I love your ornament wreath! I love that you used all different sizes of beads and ornaments. And score on the price!! Your decor is gorgeous, too!!
Thanks for the nice comment. I love your wreath. I'm so sad that I have yet to make one. Maybe this week 🙂 Merry Christmas!
