Social Saturday - 8 Goals for 2012

Every Saturday I like to get a little personal with my readers and share what's going on in my world, my head, and/or my heart! I hope you'll play along with me as I share a little about myself each week!

~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~.~

There are some things I want to accomplish in 2012; some goals I want to meet.

I feel if I write them out, then maybe I will hold myself accountable to them!

1. I want to eat more fruit. Not just for me, but for my boys as well. I want to set a good example. I'm not a big banana eater (strings! ugh!) or orange eater (strings! ugh!), but I want to start eating them. I love apples, pears, grapes, and kiwis. I need to add them to my diet more.

(By the by, what do you think about my tangerine storage above? Cute, right??? Its an old drawer I purchased from Wuslu!)

2. I, for reals, need to get my exercise on. My new frenemy Jillian is going to help me. I may hate her for months, but I'm sure I will learn to love her one day. I just started her 30 Day Shred this last week.

I hate her.

But as a super busy working mommy, and I need something that I can do at home and doesn't take an hour to get through!

3. I need to date my husband. We've literally gone one ~2-3 dates/year since our family has grown from just the two of us. I've challenged my husband to date me at least once per month. "Santa" dropped some hints in his stocking with these adorable date night gift card envelopes I downloaded and printed from my friend Bev. My other challenge to him was that after these gift cards were used, he had to refill the envelopes and give them back to me. πŸ™‚

4. I want to more of a "yes" mom. NOT an "I'm too busy doing housework/blogging" mom.

Who could say no to these adorable faces anyway?

5. I want to go to a blogger conference! I want to experience what its like to be in a room crammed FULL of like-minded crafty peeps like myself. I love getting together with my local TN bloggers, and I'm ready to put that on a bigger scale!

You may or may not have noticed the little button I added at the bottom of my sidebar, BUT...
I am going to the SNAP! Conference in April! I am beside myself giddy with excitement. I've been saving my Etsy money and have already purchased my conference ticket and hotel room. *squeal!*

6. No.More.Fabric. I don't even sew (yet), but I have amassed a surprisingly large supply of remnant fabric. I didn't even realize how much until I recently started organizing it (more on that on Monday). I'm challenging myself to not buy any fabric in 2012. Its going to be so hard! But I think I can do it.

7. This sewing machine must come out of the box this year! I asked for a very simple sewing machine for Christmas of 2010, and I was lucky enough to get one. Learning a new hobby is a little daunting right now. But I'm determined to learn to thread the thing! I have a very simple first project lined up.

8. I need to take more time for me. My husband is good about taking the boys somewhere for a couple of hours on the weekend to give me some time to myself, but I'm always spending that time on laundry, blogging, crafting for the blog, organizing toys... you get the idea. I need to sit down. Read more books. Drink some chai tea. Soak in the tub.I'm off to a good start though. I treated myself to a pedicure last weekend! I haven't had one since, oh I don't know, last March before my newest little man was born!

So what are your goals for the year?
Any similar to mine?
Let's hold each other accountable! πŸ™‚

  1. @Kareth, I haven't tried the workouts, but noticed that Target is selling one of them with the 30 Day Shred.

@Paula, I tried some Cuties over the weekend! Still kind of stringy, but not as bad as a regular orange. I managed to choke down 2 of them! πŸ™‚

@Lindsay, I hurt in places I didn't even originally realize I was working out! lol! I've been on level 1 for several days now. No idea when I'll be ready to move on!! Good luck! πŸ™‚

  2. I just started the 30 Day Shred this weekend and oh. my. gosh. I have a cough today and it's killing my abs! I've only done level 1 two times so far and I'm so sore, and I was already working out before! Good luck to us both for surviving Jillian!

  3. I wish you the best of luck on your eating better and exercising goals. I struggled to get into a good eating & exercising routine after I had kids because I felt guilty about working out when I could be spending time with them and it was much easier/faster to eat to- go food rather than cook. I got my act together a year ago, and we're all happier!

ps: Starting to sew is also a goal of mine for this year! I look forward to your posts about it!

  4. I love your drawer, that is actually the first thing I noticed.
As for strings, have you tried cuties? They are seedless and so easy to peel with less strings.
Love your goals. I was just setting mine today. Budget and Organization!!

  5. Great goals, Michele! Way to go with publishing them. πŸ™‚ I think I agree with all of them!! I never met anyone else who hates strings on fruits like me!! I am vowing to be a better mom and take time for myself this year, too! Happy 2012!

  6. Hm, is the drawer from an old library card catalog?

I have given up diet soda. It's a good feeling.

  7. Maybe you could make some smoothies and that would add the fruit that you don't care for to your diet.

We are not even going to mention the exercise goal πŸ˜‰

Love your Date Night and I totally get that.

Your boys are absolutely adorable but moms are usually pulled in many directions so don't be too hard on yourself πŸ˜‰

    Congrats on attending the Conference.

I have only had one pedicure in my entire life! Good for you for taking time for yourself.

  8. Yay Michele!! I love this post!!
I am with ya on bananas. There has to be a better way to get potassium. Yuck.
I loved the Date Night goal(thanks for the link πŸ™‚ - hubby and I need to be better about that too!
You are going to be awesome at sewing - I can't wait to see what you do this year.
And I am SOOOOO excited about SNAP! I can't wait to meet in real life!! πŸ™‚
PS - adorable picture of you boys!! love those smiles πŸ™‚

  9. These goals are perfect Michele! And similar to my own. I'd love to finally attend a blogging conference. I'm sure you will learn so much, make way more bloggy friends & have a blast! And I think you will be awesome at sewing!! Esp with all that beautiful fabric as your inspiration. I love that you want to date your hubby once a month. What a GREAT goal, and totally reasonable. We need to be better at that.

  10. Nice goals! The best is the dating one. We made a commitment to once a week 17 years ago when our kids were babies. There were times when money wasn't at a surplus and babysitters were tough to afford. But in the end, it was a great investment in our relationship and marriage. Heck! Why not give it to a babysitter, instead of a divorce attorney!! lol

  11. My goals: get in shape, drink more water, eat healthier, develop a line of dress and stock them in my etsy shop.

I love your tangerine storage! So cute!

  12. Awesome goals. We share many of the same ones. Have you tried the Jillian workouts yet? I've been looking for some. There are so many different ones it can make your head spin! lol

Good luck with your goals! May 2012 be your BEST year yet!!!

  13. Great goals. I have a bowl of clementines on my kitchen island - they are pretty tasty once you get in the habit.

You have Most Awesome goals. And I know you can meet each one of them (as long as you don't count interfacing as fabric!).

And yes, your boys ARE the cutest ever πŸ˜€
