Ice Cream Garland

Nothing screams summertime dessert like ice cream so why not make a fun ice cream garland for summer celebrations.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream!

You know I couldn’t help myself there.

This month’s FloraCraft® Make It: Fun challenge is all about the foam cones, and the first thing that came to my mind when I saw them was ice cream cones.

Wouldn’t this Ice Cream Garland be super cute for an ice cream party?

Or just fun for summer!

Ice Cream Garland Cones:

Stick bamboo skewers through the center of the cones.

This will make handling them much easier.

Apply a layer of the Smooth Finish over the sides of the cone as directed on the jar.

Smooth as much as you can but don’t worry about ridges.

These cones are flat on top so bring the Smooth Finish to a point to get the look of an ice cream cone.

Allow to dry for several hours

Lightly sand the cones to achieve a relatively smooth surface.

It doesn’t have to be perfect.

Be sure to wipe off all dust from sanding then paint the cones brown.

I used Americana Multi-Surface Satin acrylic paint in Brown Sugar.

Ice Cream Garland Fabric:

While the paint is drying, cut the fabric into 1-2″ strips.

The length of the strips doesn’t matter (in case you have small fabric scraps) but you will need at least 24-36″ total, depending on how tightly you wrap the fabric.

Roll the fabric strips into tubes and glue the tube closed by running the adhesive along the edge of the fabric.

Once the cones are dry, hot glue the rolled fabric along the top edge of the cone.

Continue to glue and wrap, working your way up and inside each row of fabric.

If the skewer gets in your way go ahead and remove it.

Left: Continue wrapping the fabric to create the look of ice cream.

Use a hair dryer to get rid of any hot glue strings.

Right: Apply small daubs of Decoupage to various parts of the ice cream then sprinkle with Diamond Dust.

The Decoupage will dry clear and leave little sparkles on the ice cream that look like ice cream frost.

Repeat with all of the cones and fabric for a total of 5 ice cream cones.

Thread embroidery floss through a needle and use it to string the ice cream cones into a garland by piercing through the tops of the ice cream.

For contrast, I wrapped small paper doilies around some of the cones.

Isn’t it fun?

Now I need to have a party to show off my ice cream garland!

What do you think?

Does it look good enough to eat??

I think I’m hooked on this Glitter Dust.

I want to glitter all the things!
