Social Saturday – The Story of a Cake

If you follow me on Facebook you know I made a cake last week.
And not just any cake, but a cake I was pretty certain I had downright destroyed
then miraculously brought back to life!
I thought I would share the story of what happened today.
It comes from trying to bake while simultaneously cooking dinner, keeping a 1 year old from having a fit, and entertaining a very chatty 3 year old. Distracted much?
Can you believe I messed up the very first step in the recipe?
I even looked at it twice to be sure because it didn’t sound right!
*sigh*
So here’s the low down.
I’ve been itching to try this strawberry yogurt cake ever since I put together
the list of 27 Recipes for Fresh Strawberries
The first step is very typical: cream together the butter and sugar.
For whatever reason, I completely overlooked the fact that granulated sugar was at the top of the ingredient list. I creamed it with the powdered sugar at the end of the ingredient list!
This pretty much fouled up the batter from the start.
By the time I had all of the ingredients in (still having overlooked the granulated sugar!),
my batter was the consistency of bread dough.
Doh!

Luckily I was able to add some milk and get the consistency back to what it should have been.
Then I added some sugar to get the taste right.
Finally baking it about 30 minutes longer than it called for because this is now one.dense.cake.
BUT, it turned out sooooo yummy!
Ah, a happy ending. 🙂
Let’s hear your latest baking disasters!
