Just before Christmas I came across a great deal on these mini light boxes at Joann’s. It was so good I couldn’t pass it up and bought myself a little present! I didn’t see a lot of designs for it that I truly loved so I decided to try and make some myself. And it’s kind of addicting!

I’m going to share with you how to make your own mini light box designs as well as share 4 freebies with you.

I wanted to be sure I got good ones that I wouldn’t have to worry about smudging and would work with my inkjet printer. I ended up going with this Apollo Transparency Film (affiliate link). It’s not cheap, but if you do that math and create 1 set of light box designs per 50 sheets, that is only a little more than $1 per design. WAY cheaper than the ones in the stores and you can create anything you want!

Measure the length and width then draw the same size rectangle in your drawing software. Stack four of the rectangles on top of each other and create the your own design inside them. Print the design on a sheet of the transparency film and cut out the rectangles. They should slide perfectly into the light box slots.

Thank you for sharing this tutorial – it is a great idea – so I will now have to see if I can find the Mini Light Boxes here in Australia.

Michele, Oopsy, I made a goof with my first comment. The all-caps really throws my brain off. Anywho, as I said before I don’t know if this is something I’ll do but I like the idea- very cute!
