This is a sponsored post for DecoArt for whom I am a Core Blogger. As always, all ideas and opinions are 100% my own.
Hand lettering is SO popular right now! Too bad my handwriting stinks. I’m working on improving it, but in the meantime, I’m using an alternative “handwritten” type technique.
I thought the hand lettering look was perfect for my new America wall art! Let me show you how I made it.
And, as a bonus, be sure to check out some more fabulous Patriotic Painted Projects from other DecoArt Core Bloggers at the end of this post!
I found this flag wall art at Target in the Dollar Spot. It was a little too forced rustic for my taste. But I’ve been on the hunt for something shaped like the US for ages that I could alter and the price was just right on this.
I also used DecoArt Americana Acrylic paint in Primary Blue, Snow White, and Primary Red.
Start by painting the entire front of the wall art in Primary Blue. It took ~4-5 coats to completely cover the stars and stripes.
Next, create the text on your computer. I love the Austie Bost Versailles font for faux hand lettering. Print out the text, place it on your wall art, and trace slowly over the text with a Sharpie. The Sharpie will go through the paper and leave a pattern on the paint that you can trace. Once the Sharpie is dry on the paint, go over it with a small point paintbrush and the Snow White paint. Trace over the letters with at least 2 coats of the paint.
Paint on some little stars for accents in the empty spaces.
To incorporate the red into the wall art, paint the edge with the Primary Red. Allow it to overlap onto the front of the sign as well.
I accidentally got a little bit of paint on the rope so I covered it with some ribbon. But I love how it looks and further brings in the red color!
I am so in love with how this sign turned out! It’s going to be an exciting addition to my patriotic mantel this summer.
