Bold Restyled

Hello, friends! A few months ago I revealed our new living room colors and the fact that I am attempting to “Embrace Bold” by throwing yellow into the mix. And not just a little accent here or there. BIG items like a new yellow saffron multi-cart and side table from Sauder! Today I’m going to show you how we’ve been using the furniture and how to style this bold, bright color.

Here are the pieces as I styled them when they first arrived. I set the side table up as an accent table with some fun accessories from around the house. The multi-cart acted as a coffee table and held more fun accessories within easy reach of the sofa.

Let’s start with the multi-cart. We don’t always have need of a coffee table, and our sectional sofa has an ottoman that is often in front of it so the multi-cart has doubled as an end table for the sofa. It’s almost the same length as the side of the sofa so it fits great.

I made a couple of fabric baskets that fit under the cart perfectly, but more on those in a moment. I love the cart as a side table and this is how it sits more often than not at the house. During our last birthday party we did place it in front of the sofa which worked well when it was time for people to eat cake and ice cream!

Going back to the fabric baskets, I designed two to fit perfectly side by side on the bottom of the multi-cart. They are huge! 16x16x14 so they can hold a lot. And you can never have too much storage, am I right?

In this case, the baskets hold my boys’ Lego collection! There are approximately 30 pounds of Legos in these two baskets. Because they are common use toys, it made sense to store them in a room where the boys can play with them together. Even better, they can wheel the multi-cart anywhere in the room where they are playing and build right on the top of the cart. Talk about cool Lego storage!

Moving on to the side table, I ultimately decided it would work better in my youngest son’s room. He will be moving out of his toddler bed soon and into a twin bed so we’ll be using the side table as a night stand. It’s the perfect size and plenty big enough on top to hold his bedside essentials: a clock and night light as well as some bedtime stories.

In the meantime, my little guy has been using the side table as a desk. He hides his notepads and colored pencils in the drawer and can pull them out when he wants to color on the desk. He thinks he’s so big to have his own desk in his room! And, at 3 years old, it’s just his size.

I think I have thoroughly embraced the bold with these furniture selections from Sauder. I love having them in my house and how versatile they can be.
