This is a sponsored post for Paint-A-Pillow. As always, all opinions are 100% my own. What do you think of my new pillows? I am pretty much infatuated with them! And can you believe… I painted them? No seriously!
I have SUCH a fun new company to tell you guys about today. Paint-A-Pillow is a sister company to everyone’s favorite, Cutting Edge Stencils. They make customizing design-style pillows for your home way easier than you ever thought it could be! AND I’m giving away one of their pillow kits to one lucky reader!
Paint-A-Pillow has an innovative stencil kit that makes customizing your pillows a snap. You can easily select from lots of fun stencil designs, paint colors, and pillow accessories. It all arrives in a box kit that is ready to use straight out of the box!
The kit comes with everything you need to make a custom stenciled pillow including:
a (fabulous) stenciling frame, reusable pillow stencil, 17″x17″ cotton pillow cover, pillow insert, mini roller, stencil brush, paint tray, stirring stick, illustrated instructions to answer all of your questions, a fabric paint of choice, and a free mini stencil with a practice swatch of fabric
I also picked out a 2nd stencil pillow cover, pillow insert, stencil brush, paint color, and studs.
The stencil I selected with the kit is the Birch Forest pillow stencil. I’m all about the natural elements, even in my decor! I cannot even tell you how much this stencil appeals to me. My living room is gray with navy and yellow accents. With a gray sectional sofa, navy and yellow pillows were just what I needed so I selected the Jacquard Textile paint in navy and also got a jar in Goldenrod.
Can I just go on about this stenciling frame? It’s pretty much a genius idea! A giant sheet of cardboard which holds the pillow cover, which comes with a sheet of cardboard inside of it for painting – it’s ready to go straight out of the box, and the stencil, which locks in place with long brads. It is fabulous! You don’t have to worry about taping down the stencil or trying to adhere it to the pillow while you work.
For the birch pillow I stuck with just the navy paint. There is a handy Paint-A-Pillow video you can watch before painting to get comfortable with the process. I used the foam roller to roll on a light coat of paint. Then I followed up with the stencil brush, mainly along the edges and any place that needed a bit more paint. As you can see, it worked like a charm!
The second stencil I selected was the Tribe pillow stencil. After completing the birch pillow, I simply lifted the stencil off of the frame and set aside the pillow cover to dry then replaced it all with the new pillow cover (again, already lined inside with a piece of cardboard!) and the Tribe stencil. This stencil provided an excellent opportunity to use duel colors! I started with the Goldenrod then followed up with the Navy. I used a different stencil brush to apply each color.
To bring in a little of the gray from our living room, I applied some Antique Silver Studs to the pillow. There is an Accessorizing Your Pillow video to help you figure out how to add various accessories to your pillows.
I really love that 1) I can custom select the colors of my pillows, 2) select from a great assortment of stencil designs, and 3) literally open the box and get started on my DIY designer pillows right away with no prep work!
And how about those crisp lines! My husband didn’t believe at first that I had painted these pillow covers. He thought they were store bought! Even after feeling them. That’s pretty awesome, you guys!
