Easy Elmer’s Glitter Glue Spider Webs

October 10, 2012 By Michele McDonald 25 Comments

Have you seen those amazing DIY glitter spider webs around the internet?
The webs are drawn out with Elmer’s glue then sprinkled with glitter. This is the first one I found on Pinterest last year, but I’ve seen some other renditions around lately. I think they are too cute!
But possibly a bit messy?
So when I found Elmer’s GLITTER Glue at Walmart I pretty much squealed out loud and grabbed one in every color! I instantly thought of those glittery glue webs and how I just cut my steps in half to make them!

For this project you will need 2 3 things:
wax paper
Elmer’s Glitter Glue
patience!
Spread out your wax paper on a hard surface and put something on the corners if you need to to keep it flat.
Starting from the center, slowly draw out lines in all directions to get the web started.
Now to fill in the web! Start in the center and work your way out.
Work slowly so your lines of glue aren’t too thin.
You don’t want them to break later when you peel the glue off of the wax paper.
Now the hardest part…
Waiting for the glue to dry!
You will need to wait for at least 24 hours before you can peel the web off.
(longer if you have any extra thick spots such as in the center of the web)
Once the glue is dry, select an outside piece of the web to and gently pull it up. You might have to use your fingernail to get between the glue and the wax paper.
Following the purple arrows above, gently pull up that first piece of the web then work your way to the left or right. Once you reach where the pink arrow is, slowly pull up that edge of the web. Continue on in the direction of the green arrow.
Work your way from the outside of the web towards the center by going around the circle and peeling the glue up slowly. You’ll get faster at it as you continue on and feel more comfortable with pulling the glue up without tearing it.
Tada!
The purple looked like it had lost a lot of its color while it was on the wax paper, but is pretty vibrant against any solid color background.
These glittery glue webs are super flexible and can be placed just about anywhere as decoration.
I used one of the glittery glue spider webs on the pumpkin in my Spooky Halloween Centerpiece.
To make it I simply altered the web by leaving a hole in the center roughly the same diameter as the stem of my pumpkin.

Once the web was dry, I draped it over the pumpkin and allowed gravity to do its work.
By the next day the web had fallen down and taken on the shape of the pumpkin.
Super simple, super cute, and a fun Halloween element!
I link to these fun parties!

Have you tried using non-stick Reynolds foil? Seems like it should work better to peal off

Great idea, love these! And yes, so much easier to use glitter glue vs. glue and glitter.

Those turned out really cute! When I was a kid, Elmers had neon glue and I used to make tons of these!

OMG you just flashed me back to my teens! My friends and I used to do this with the sort of clear glittery fabric paint in tubes so that we could stick the designs to our bedroom mirrors. I’ll have to do this with my daughters! I think I actually still have some of those tubes of paint around (yikes LOL)

How fun is that?! I love that they’re kind of flexible and you can use them anywhere. And it’s so smart to do them on wax paper so you can peel them right off!
