Home Sweet Home Sign

February 15, 2017 By: Michele McDonald5 Comments

Paint a sweet sign for your home with a pop of shine!

This is a sponsored post for DecoArt for whom I am a Core Blogger. As always, all ideas and opinions are 100% my own. This post contains affiliate links.

Paint a sweet sign for your home with a pop of shine! I’m always on the hunt for new ideas of things to add to my walls.  I’m slowly starting to embrace bold, bright colors in my home so I wanted to create a new canvas that I could add to my decor. And with all of the pretty metallics showing up in signs these days, I wanted to incorporate a little of that, too! I came up with this pretty Home Sweet Home sign and shimmers just the way I wanted it to!

Paint a sweet sign for your home with a pop of shine! Supplies:
Canvas
Carbon paper
Printed template
Americana Acrylic Paint in Coral, Bright Blue, and Cocoa
Dazzling Metallics in Splendid Gold

DecoArt just came out with some new paint colors of which the Coral and Bright Blue are two.

Paint a sweet sign for your home with a pop of shine! Find the fonts you want to use in your sign and design it in your drawing program. Enlarge it to fit your canvas (mine is 12×12) and split the design to print on multiple sheets of paper if needed. Tape the design together.

Lay the carbon paper face down on the canvas and place the design right side up on top of the carbon paper. Trace the design onto the canvas.

Paint a sweet sign for your home with a pop of shine! Paint the background of the canvas first. Two quick coats will give the perfect coverage.

Carefully paint the letters. To really make the gold shine without having to do many, many coats, I started with a coat of the Cocoa then topped that with two coats of the Splendid Gold. I also did two coats of the Bright Blue.

Any mistakes you make while painting the letters can be corrected by covering up with the background color.

Paint a sweet sign for your home with a pop of shine! How about that shine! I am loving how the gold paint looks on the canvas and paired with the blue and coral.

BUT the sign looks like it could use a little more…

Paint a sweet sign for your home with a pop of shine! So, though not originally planned in the design, I added some pretty flowers in the corners of the canvas in some more of DecoArt’s new paint colors: Cotton Candy, Green Tree, and Light Orchid. And to make them pop a bit as well I added some of the Splendid Gold .

Paint a sweet sign for your home with a pop of shine! I absolutely love how it turned out! The blue matches my living room colors so well, and the coral is that extra punch of unexpected color I want. And that gold! It just makes the entire canvas really catch the eye.
