Ice Cream Scale Update
Give an antique store find new life with a fresh coat of paint!

I found THE cutest little ice cream scale at an antique store a couple of weeks ago! Well, cute except for the dingy beige color it was wrapped in. But I knew I could give this little beauty new life with a good scrubbing and a fresh coat of paint! So I snatched it up and, as you can see, gave it a much needed update.

First up, I gave the entire thing a good polish. The plastic surrounding it was easy enough to wipe down, but I gave all of the metal a good scrubbing with vinegar and baking soda. There are still a few rusty place that I couldn't scrub clean, but the rest is so shiny now!

I wrapped the front face of the scale with Painter's tape as well as the screw thingamajig (that's a technical word) that helps balance the scale. Then I applied 3 coats of Spa Blue acrylic paint over all of the plastic backing. The paint had a very matte finish and could be scratched off if accidentally scraped so I topped the paint with a coat of glossy Decoupage.

Doesn't it look so but better in blue than beige? I love the transformation and little paint can give.

This is going to look so fun in my kitchen. Or maybe I'll let it hang out in my craft space for awhile and hold some little trinkets. Either way I'm happy I rescued it!
