Rustic Art Display (for less than $10)

November 19, 2014 By Michele McDonald 24 Comments

This is sponsored post on behalf of Consumer Crafts. As always, opinions are 100% my own. Rustic-Art-DisplayLast week I told you guys that sometimes I shop for craft supplies in my pajamas. Seriously, Consumer Crafts is a like a dream come true for a girl like me who longs to stay in her flannel pants and house shoes all day long! I hinted that I bought some fun items from them, and today I’m going to show you what all I got and how I used them to make this Rustic Art Display!

consumer-crafts-suppliesThe main supplies needed to make the display (the part that keeps it under $10) are 2 wooden rulers, interlock tape, and silver metallic cord.

The extra supplies I purchased were to create the art for the display including: black heavyweight construction paper, white heavyweight construction paper, chalk pen, gold sequin ribbon, red velvet ribbon.

The construction paper is my favorite purchase in maybe EVER. It comes with 50 sheets per pack and is sized at 9″ x 12″. And did I mention that each pack is less than $2? Yeah. That. I can create a lot of artwork with that!

hang-art-with-velcroThe first thing I did was stain the rulers. I wanted something dark so I used Minwax in Dark Walnut and topped it with a clear acrylic coat with high gloss for a shiny finish.

The art will be attached to the rulers with the interlocking tape so place two pieces on the back of each ruler. Adhere a length of the silver cord for hanging to the back of one of the rulers using a hot glue gun.

Create your art!

merry-and-bright-gold-foilAdd interlocking tape to the pieces of art, matching them up with the pieces on the rulers. Your art is now ready to hang!

ruler-art-displayI had SO much fun creating the art! I made one for Thanksgiving that I can hang now, and 3 Christmas pieces that I can change around during December.

– For the Give Thanks piece I simply used a black Sharpie on the white construction paper.

– I wanted the Happy Holiday piece to look like a chalkboard so I rubbed a piece of chalk over the black construction paper then erased it. I then used the chalk pen to write out the greetings.

– I drew an image of a deer head silhouette on the black construction paper then hot glued the gold sequin ribbon over it for the 3rd piece of art.

– Finally, I used a die cut machine to create this Merry & Bright art. The gold foil vinyl pops off of the white construction paper!

And speaking of die cut machines… how would you like to win one?? Fill out the Rafflecopter widget below to enter to win a Cricut Explore Machine! Good luck!

LOVE this Michele. Really great idea to switch out all year long. The first thing I’d make would probably be a card. Or a sign. Or a home decor item. Or or or lol.
