Dress up a plain sun hat and get it beach ready!
This is a sponsored post for DecoArt for whom I am a Core Blogger. As always, all ideas and opinions are 100% my own.
This month my family is taking a vacation to the beach! While I love our family vacations to historic places and national parks, the beach ones are always my favorite. There is no itinerary. The biggest decision I have to make each day is where to eat dinner. It’s all about the relaxation.
I’ve had this sun hat for years and finally decided it needed an update before we head to the beach this year. So that’s just what I gave it!
I used the Americana Decor Outdoor Living paints in Harvest, Adirondack, Poolside, and Picket Fence. This line is perfect for painting a sun hat since it resists fading and water!
I printed out “Life is better at the beach” in the font and size that I wanted to use on the hat. My handwriting is atrocious so there was no chance at my free handing the phrase.
Cut out each word and place it around the brim of the hat to determine the best way to center the phrase.
Just eyeballing the text and trying to copy it wasn’t going to work for me. Instead, I found a way to turn the words I printed into a template of sorts.
By flipping over the paper, I could trace the words with a paintbrush full of the Adirondack, keeping it as wet as possible. Then I pressed the paper in place on the hat. The transfer wasn’t complete, but it was enough to guide me to finish painting each word.
I cut the longer words in half to ensure the paint would still be wet for the transfer.
To make the letters more visible, I went back and outlined parts of each letter with the Picket Fence. I think it makes them pop a lot more.
I added a couple of embellishments, a sun and an ocean wave, to each end of the hat and it was done.
I am definitely beach ready now! The countdown to vacation is ON!
