Upcycled Tin Canister
I have a problem... I don't throw things away that most people would throw away!
Well, you guys probably wouldn't throw them away either because you're crafty like that!
I had this set of 3 tin canisters that contained hot chocolate (it was a gift set) and, once the hot chocolate was gone, I just could not throw the canisters away!
I have a large trash can that I keep under my craft desk for just such items. It called the nontrash trash.
I decided to upcycle one of these canisters.
Its comprised of solely matching scrapbook papers, decorative ribbon, and a couple of other items.
I used some of the ledger paper journaling spots that are in my Etsy shoppe to decorate the tin.
The decorative ribbon around the edge of the lid of the tin effectively hides where the paper doesn't quite go to the edge.
I made a fun little flower using a scallop circle punch and cutting consecutively smaller circles out of alternating papers. I also crumpled the papers then inked them with distress in. The button and thin twine top it off.
I'm actually using this canister as a gift holder for a giveaway I'm holding for my blogiversary, but since I still have 2 more canisters... I think I'll make a couple spares!
Speaking of spares... Here is a second one I made and got all glittered up for the PK Glitz you CAN be crafty challenge!
Thanks for stopping by!

great upcycling!!!!

That is definitely one cute tin no one would ever think of throwing away!! Love your idea - where are those boy scout popcorn tins when you need them?!
This is lovely, Michele! I am so glad to know I am not the only one who saves things like that. I will have to tell my hubby, since he loves to give me a hard time about it. 🙂
What a great upcyle project! I love that you made something from what some folks might call trash and just throw it into our landfill! I am constantly using plastic butter tubs, yogurt containers and glass pasta sauce jars for projects in the garage all the time! Thanks for sharing on Modern Craftswoman Monday!
I have that same problem! I keep anything I think I may perhaps someday possibly utilize again. 🙂 It's taking over my basement...
Your canister is darling. If you can make an old canister look like that, why WOULDN'T you keep it???
Thanks for commenting over on bugaboo, mini, mr & me! I'm glad you liked the reading wreathe and happy you stopped by. (The flowers were kind of a pain to make, so the fact that you liked them makes me feel a little better!)
I love the nontrash trash idea, I need one of those, but my non trash trash might be too big!
Your can is absolutely fab, love it, too cute!
I gave you an award at my blog

it turned out so cute, love the colors you used. Thanks for stopping by my blog this morning 😉
I love how your canister turned out. Love the vintage picture and the big flower. Great job! I actually have a dresser where I keep things that I want to alter. A tash can would be overflowing lol
We have a "Can Challenge" over at P K Glitz. The only thing is that it needs to have glitter or embossing powder on your project. If you are interested, you can check it out at http://pkglitz.com/blog/2010/06/can-challenge/
Your canister came out gorgeous! Love the combo of papers and trims and embellishments, such a nice set. You make it look so effortless!
Your scrappin' skills (almost!) make me sick!! That canister is entirely too cute!
Super cute!!! I have a popcorn tin under my craft desk as we speak! LOL!
haha i have a bunch of old containers that i keep adding too...you never know when you want to remodel it:-) your can is really cute!
I received a lovely award which in turn I am passing on to you! Stop by to "pick it up" : http://answerischocolate.blogspot.com/2010/06/thank-you-jennifer.html
Gorgeous! I am really having to watch out so I don't end up like the people on "Hoarders" ( A&E show). I look at everything before I get rid of it, wondering what could I make. There's SO much waste in packaging of things it makes me ill.
Hi Michele, you have such a fun blog! LOVE the canister!
Thanks for stopping by.
It's so pretty, I love it !
