USA Punched Cans (from paper!)

Create these USA Punched Cans the easy way with cardstock instead of tin!

And I do believe 110% that glitter should be used with all holiday crafts!

I think July 4th may be my favorite holiday to craft for.

Now, I may say this for every holiday when it rolls around, so take that statement with a grain of salt, but I do love working with red, white, and blue and creating crafts to show off our patriotism.

This faux punched cans project is a perfect example!

It's simple, patriotic, and uses my favorite holiday additive: glitter!

USA Punched Cans: Glitter Cardstock

I love the corrugated glitter cardstock from American Crafts and as soon as I saw it I knew what I would make with it!

To make the cans you can cut the cardstock to any size you want. I went with 7"x12".

USA Punched Cans: USA Template

I made a template for my letters on the computer using the basic Times New Roman font.

You can download the file I used here.

I trimmed the printout to be 7 inches tall to match the height of the cardboard then cut to separate the letters.

If you use different dimensions then you can resize the file to fit your needs.

USA Punched Cans: Punching Holes

Center the letters face down on the back of the corrugated glitter cardboard and tape them down with masking tape.

If you have ever scrapbooked or do any sort of paper crafting then you probably have an eyelet setter.

I have an old kit from back in the day, but there are some fancier new ones that don't require hammering and they are fairly inexpensive and good to have in your craft stash.

Using the letters as a guide, begin punching holes through the paper and cardstock using the eyelet setter.

I spaced my holes approximately ¼" apart.

Continue with each of the letters then remove the paper from the back of the cardstock.

I'm keeping my template for future use since I have a feeling I will have family members who will want some of these!

USA Punched Cans: Creating "Can" Look

Roll the cardstock into a cylinder and staple the ends together.

Now is the time to further decorate the "cans" if you so choose.

I added American Crafts glitter tape to each of my cans.

Add some battery-operated tea lights inside each can and you are done!

I love how festive these USA Punched Cans look!

I do believe these are headed for my mantel.
