Apple Embroidery Hoop

August 10, 2016 By: Michele McDonald12 Comments

The apple embroidery hoop is a fun back to school teacher gift idea!

Turn an embroidery hoop into an apple perfect for hanging notes for class. Such a fun teacher gift idea for back to school!
I love a good doily project, and this one is super cute for the teachers your know! This apple embroidery hoop is the perfect place for teachers to hang little note reminders or photos right on their desk. It’s so easy to make you’ll be whipping them up for all the teachers in school!

Note: Find your doily first then find an embroidery hoop size to match it.

Years ago (7! Can you believe how old this blog is???) I shared a simple technique for staining small projects and touching up scratched wood furniture using distress inks which are mainly used for card making and scrapbooking. It’s such an awesome tip because it is SO much less messy than actual stain, dries faster, and looks just as good.

Apply distress ink in your desired color to the embroidery hoop with a sponge applicator. I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink (affiliate link) in Vintage Photo. It’s nice darker brown color and matches the spool which was pre-stained when I purchased it.

I found this red doily at Michaels. Insert the doily in the embroidery hoop and pull it tight without stretching it out. Trim off the excess doily from the back of the hoop.

The spool is going to act as the stem of the apple. Wrap the brown yarn around the spool. Do this by hot gluing the end of the yarn to the bottom of the spool, wrap up to the top, then hot glue the end of the yarn to the spool. Hot glue the spool to the top of the embroidery hoop, up snug next to the screw to tighten the hoop.

Cut two leaves out of the scrapbook paper. These are going to hide the rest of the screw at the top of the hoop so make the leaves nice and fat. Fold them in half lengthwise to give them some texture and hot glue them to the top of the hoop, next to the stem and covering the screw.

Throw in a few mini clothespins to hold notes or photos and you have an unique teacher gift idea!
