Create a BOO-tique handbag with a couple of Halloween tapestry placemats!
Decorating for the holidays does not have to be restricted to your home decor.
A lot of people also like to dress themselves according to the holidays.
If you’re that type, you will love this BOO-tique handbag for Halloween!
At under $10, it’s super affordable to make and can be created in 20 minutes.
Not to mention it is a fun and festive to carry around this October.
And you’ll never guess what it is made from…
To create this Halloween handbag you will need:
2 Halloween placemats (affiliate link)
1 yd belting trim
Halloween ribbon (affiliate link)
A sewing machine
Any Halloween-themed placemats will work for this project, but I love the tapestry look of these.
They will make the handbag look more lush and give the a boutique look.
First, cut the yard of belting trim in half to create 2 straps, one for each placemat.
Line up the straps where you want them to go on the back of the placemats and pin in place.
Sew strap to placemat.
Because of the orange and black stripes at the top of these placemats, I wanted to be sure all of my sewing occurred on black parts of the mats.
The white arrows represent where the stitches are: 2 across the top and one down each side.
When you flip the placemat over, you cannot see the stitches (white arrows).
That’s why a tapestry placemat is a great choice for this project!
It hides all of the stitching
Once all of the straps are sewn on, put the placemats face-to-face.
Line up all of the corners and sides and pin in place.
Sew down one side, across the bottom, then up the 2nd side.
Turn the bag right side out and iron the edges smooth.
Be sure to poke out those corners as they will try to stay tucked in.
Optional: Use the Halloween ribbon to make a decorative bow around one of the straps.
I think it adds a little something extra to the handbag.
Now you will be styling this Halloween!
The finished handbag is large enough to carry around quite a bit.
I may be hiding our Halloween candy stash in mine!
