This DIY lap desk only takes 5 minutes make and costs just a few dollars!
It won’t be long before school is back in session. If your child’s bedroom is too small for a desk or if they have one and get tired of sitting at it, make this simple DIY lap desk, and they can sit and do their homework almost anywhere! All you need are a handful of supplies and about 5 minutes of time.
Supplies:
Trays
Neck Pillows
Small plastic buckets
Scotch Fasteners (a.k.a. Velcro) strips
1. Cut two strips of the fasteners (front and back) a couple of inches shorter than the length of the neck pillow. Apply them to the underside of the tray, the rough side of the fasteners against the plastic tray.
2. Locate the seam running the length of the neck pillow.
3. Place the pillow, seam side down on the fasteners and press firmly to assure a good attachment.
My boys were crazy for these neck pillows and wanted to be able to play with them without the trays if they wanted. Since the soft sides of the fasteners are attached to them, they can be removed from the tray and lain on.
To create a pencil holder on the lap desk, add two small strips of the fasteners to the underside of the small bucket and press it firmly to a corner of the desk. Now pencils, pens, crayon, etc. are within easy reach and won’t go flying about.
My guys are already using their desks for coloring and writing. Pretty soon they’ll be using them for actual school work.
You can’t beat this DIY lap desk for a quick and inexpensive craft!
