If you host a Witch’s Tea or are looking for a fun little craft for girls to make this Halloween, look no further!
Today I’m going to show you how you can upcycle a plain old paper party hat into a fun little witch hat perfect for your little Halloween witch, or even as a cute fascinator hat for yourself! Or use it as part of your Halloween decor! I think it looks super fun on a pumpkin. And these are really simple to make and so inexpensive. Ready to get started?
You will need 2 sheets of Halloween-themed scrapbook paper (12×12), and one of them needs to be double-sided. You will also need a paper party hat. I have several left over from previous birthday parties, but you can find them just about anywhere.
Unfold the party hat and use it as a template to trace on one of the pieces of scrapbook paper then cut it out. Use double-sided adhesive to adhere the paper to the party hat.
Place the party hat on the second sheet of scrapbook paper (the double-sided paper) and measure out ~1 inch from the edge of the hat to see how wide the brim should be. It should be about 6 1/2 inches in diameter. Cut out the circle then cut another circle within the first circle that is smaller than the diameter of the hat (~5 inches).
Use scissors to cut fringe around the inside of the circle then fold up.
Slip the round piece of paper over the top of the party hat and push down to the base. If it fits snugly then you are good to go. If it doesn’t quite reach the base then you need to cut the fringe a little longer. Once you are satisfied that you have a good fit, take the circle back off and apply double-sided adhesive to the bottom edge of the party hat. Slip the circle back over the top of the hat and secure the fringe to the adhesive.
Now you just need to decorate the hat! I added some cute ribbon to the base to cover up the fringe and topped off the top with a button. But you can add any extra embellishments that you see fit!
Wear it to a Halloween party or out trick-or-treating with the kiddos!
Or use it in your Halloween decor.
Fun, right? And SO easy and inexpensive to make!
