Lions & Zebras & Cupcakes, Oh My!

We had my son’s first birthday party yesterday. If you’ll remember back to last month, I decided on a jungle theme by making is Jungle Invitations. I think the party was a big success, and I’m plum worn out, so for today’s post I’m just going to share some pictures of the homemade cupcakes, decorations, and birthday card from the party. It’s still somewhat of a crafty blog post, right? 🙂

Sugar cookie animals as cupcake toppers. I made two layers of cookie dough with a toothpick in the middle so I would be able to stick them into the cupcake and not worry about them falling over.

3
Leaves for the palm trees. The trunks will be pretzels.

4
Carrot cake cupcakes.

5
All iced up with green buttercream frosting! I used a recipe from Bakerella for the icing. It was really yummy!

Time to party!

The pull-apart cupcake cake complete with jungle pond (blue sugar crystals), plastic jungle animals, and palm trees.

Gavin’s cupcake.

All of Gavin’s friends are anxiously awaiting the start of the party.

Gavin loves mylar balloons so I found a lion, zebra, and elephant to help decorate the party.

I was going to buy Gavin a cute 1st birthday card at Target (they have the best cards!), but when I mentioned that to my DH he said, “Why aren’t you making his card like you did his birthday invitations?” I’m not a big card maker, but I decided the challenge had been issued and this is what I came up with…

Cute ribbon, eh? Many thanks to my friend Amber who gave it to me along with some other super cute ribbon last year! I’ve been itching to use this ribbon in just the right place.

The party was loads of fun, Gavin had a blast and has a ton of new toys and clothes, and we are ALL partied out at my house. Time to take it easy for a bit. 🙂

Wow! What wonderful inspiration (and a huge amount of work!!).

I'm having a Jungle themed party for my daughter's 4th next weekend so it was nice to see what you did here... I love that you used some of his stuffed animals as both, partygoers and decor :)

So cute!
