Metallic Trend – Gold!

There’s no doubt about it, metallics are hot right now: silver, bronze, copper, nickel, and especially gold.
Metallics can add warmth to a space or brighten a dark corner.

If you love the metallic trend it can be simple to incorporate into your current decor. I am going to show you how to spruce up a few everyday objects and make them shine with gold flare. And without spending big bucks!

One of my favorite things about Old Time Pottery is they have so many items that are a clean slate just waiting to be customized. I grabbed a white frame, cylindrical box, large vase, candle, gold ribbon, gold glitter cones, and leftover gold glitter garland from the rustic moss tree I shared last month.
gold candle
Let’s start with the candle ($3.99). Giving the candle itself a different look is fairly simple.
I trimmed a piece of gold faux bois transparency to fit the candle (you can substitute with any type of scrapbook paper) then stapled it in place. You can staple directly into the candle.
Set the candle in the vase ($3.49) then wrap the gold glitter garland around it. It almost gives the look of a nest for the candle.

The box ($5.99) can easily be dressed up with a little paint. I chose a metallic gold acrylic paint and used a sponge dauber to apply it to the sides of the box and lid. I only applied one quick coat which covered the white, but allowed the fun chippy look to show through. Cut a piece of scrapbook paper to cover the top and adhere it to the lid.
gold box 2
To further dress up the box I wrapped the gold ribbon ($1.49) around the bottom. It has a fabulous peacock feather pattern. To attach the ribbon I used Red Tape which you can find in your local craft store. It will stick just about anything and has a great strong grip.
Glue a couple of the gold glitter cones ($1.49) to the top of the box.
home sweet home
The frame ($4.99) may be my favorite piece from this set! I cut 1-inch circles from gold vinyl (you can use a paper punch or circle cutter) that I happened to have on hand. You can also use gold circle stickers.
Place the circles randomly around the frame and press down firmly. Now we have a sweet gold polka dot frame!
Add a photo or create artwork for the frame. I used the same gold glitter paper and gold faux bois transparency from the previous two projects. It helps tie them all together. The spelling of “home sweet home” is simply sticker letters.

Keep the set together or spread the pieces around the room. You have to love a trend that is easily incorporated into your current home decor! I think the metallic trend is here to stay for 2014.

These are all so awesome! I'm kind of dying over the faux bois gold transparency - that is beautiful stuff! And I'm going to have to make a gold polkadot frame. So fun!!

Metallics are really fun, love how you styled these few pieces. Just a touch goes a long way.
