I’m so excited that succulents are still so “trendy!” They really are so easy to care for and pretty to boot. I also love the colors of succulents: the varieties of green, the occasional pops of pink and purple, and even a shade of blue here or there!
When I found these wooden vases and their multi-faceted design, I just knew they would look perfect in all the shades of succulents! And, of course, also holding succulents. Well, faux succulents which are even easier to care than the real ones. But I digress! Let me show you how I made these Multi-Faceted Succulent Vases!
Supplies:
Americana Acrylic Paint – Turquoise Blue
Americana Acrylic Paint – Boysenberry Pink
Americana Acrylic Paint – Pansy Lavender
Americana Acrylic Paint – Spa Blue
Americana Acrylic Paint – Sea Aqua
Americana Acrylic Paint – Silver Sage Green
Americana Acrylic Paint – Hauser Light Green
Americana Acrylic Paint – Arbor Green
Faceted wooden vases (Michaels)
Not shown: Gold leaf pen and Decou-page Gloss
Use a small, flat brush to paint each facet on each vase a different color. You will probably need to repeat colors 2-3 times to cover each vase completely. Try to keep the colors on each facet without overlapping.
I used the Turquoise Blue, Boysenberry Pink, and Pansy Lavender as accent colors since they are so much brighter than the rest, so they are used less frequently on the vases.
Painting in the lines of each facet can be tricky. Keeping a super clean look to the edges is even more tricky. To spice things up and really give those edges an, well, edge, line them lightly with a gold leaf pen. That really helps those lines stand out and gives the vases a really clean look.
These vases feel to me that they should be shiny! So to achieve this look, apply a coat or two of the Decou-page-Gloss. I was satisfied with two. It just really gives them a nice polished look.
Since these are wood vases you don’t want to add real flowers or plants because you can’t water them. Because they are succulent paint colors, it seemed only appropriate to fill them faux succulents. Each vase will hold one succulent stem quite nicely.
I used a tall, thin succulent for the tall, thin vase. And a smaller succulent for the smaller vase.
I couldn’t be more pleased with how these wooden vases turned out! They really look like something I would purchase from a home decor store. And, since I’m already a big fan of succulents, I’m loving this color scheme.
