In December 2019, I visited my first gem show with a friend.
We thought it would be something fun to do and took our little cub scouts (Fun fact: gem show vendors love scouts, and they usually get in free if they are wearing their uniform!).
So many sparkly crystals and cool looking rocks!!
Needless to say, we were absolutely hooked.
Since then we have been to numerous gem shows and even traveled to Georgia and Arkansas to do some actual digging for quartz, aquamarine, black tourmaline, and rose quartz.
We’ve even dug for diamonds at Crater of Diamonds State Park.
Hopefully our next stop will be North Carolina to dig for emeralds, sapphire, garnets, and rubies!
In the meantime, my small mineral specimen collection has been growing, and I need a good way to show them off.
I designed this small crystal display shelf to show off the smaller specimen in my collection.
3D printer filaments: Clear glitter, Transparent glitter purple/blue gradient, Glow in the dark

Small Crystal Display Shelf
There are 26 little shelves in total so you can show off a lot of fun crystals and rocks.
Some of the shelves may look awkward, but they are perfect for crystal points and other odd shaped specimen.
The shelf itself looks like a crystal cluster.
The small crystal display shelf prints in 2 parts on a 3D printer.
The base adds stability to the shelf to be sure it won’t accidentally get tipped over.
Dimensions:
Shelf 7.8″ x 7.7″ x 0.8″
Base 5.8″ x 1.7″ x 0.5″
I am sharing the small crystal display shelf STL file on Printables.com.
It’s my first 3D model share on this website, and I can’t wait to share more!
I gathered several of the smaller specimen in my collection that I thought would fit on the shelf.
I love the variety of color that is out there in the natural world!
The rocks and minerals are pretty sturdy on the shelves, but if you are concerned they won’t stay in place, or have odd shapes that prevent them from sitting nicely, I suggest using a small amount of museum putty under them to hold them in place.
I love these specimen in the clear glitter small crystal display shelf!
It really makes the colors of the rocks and minerals pop.
Small Crystal Shelf Display Printable
Being the organizational freak that I am, I also created a printable to keep up with which rocks I have on display.
You can find the free print on Printables.com with my STL file, or download it directly here.
Small Crystal Shelf Display – Fluorescent Minerals
I also have quite the collection of small specimen that fluoresce when exposed to black light.
I thought it would be so fun to make a display from glow in the dark filament.
When I shine the black light on the specimen, as I am doing in the above photo, you can see the various minerals fluoresce in all their fun colors.
When I turn off the black light, the glow in the dark filament has absorbed the light and lets off this fun glow!
I think these small crystal display shelves turned out so fun!
If you make one, I would love to see pics (you can share them on my Printables.com model page).
If you do not have a 3D printer and want one of these shelves, contact me through my Etsy shop, and I can sell you one for $25 + shipping (they will be custom printed – not made ahead of time).
