I’m a HUGE fan of using pound cake for my birthday cakes. They hold up so well and are easy to frost since they do not crumb very much. This year we had a request for CHOCOLATE cake, so the hunt was on for a good chocolate pound cake recipe.

I found this chocolate pound cake recipe at The Food Network from Trisha Yearwood. The reviews were fairly mixed, but it sounded like if you followed the directions to a T that it would turn out perfectly. And boy did it ever! This is one of the MOST delicious cakes I’ve ever made! It’s moist, but holds together perfectly.
I made both a rectangular cake AND a round cake. That’s right, a ROUND cake!! I baked it in a 5 qt. metal mixing bowl (similar to this one). In case you ever had plans to do this and want to use this recipe, I baked it at 325 degrees F for 1 hour and 45 minutes. I can’t wait to show you the birthday cake tomorrow!
