Valentine’s Day Frame Wreath

Valentine’s Day decor doesn’t have to be all giant hearts and in-your-face lovey dovey-ness. Keeping it subtle can be sweet and romantic. And it will probably go a lot further with the males in your life!

Today I am going to show you how to create a simple Valentine’s Day wreath that is not only subtle in its homage to the day of love, but also won’t put a huge dent in your pocketbook.

When it comes to making wreaths, thinking outside the box can often pay off. In BIG ways! For instance, taking a picture frame and removing the glass gives you a brand new wreath form that can be decorated in countless ways.

Today I am going to show you how simple making a frame wreath can be. You will just need a few supplies: a picture frame, ribbon, paint, and a heart stamp.

This particular frame has a flap that encloses the glass. Use a box cutter or X-acto knife to cut it off. Remove the glass and you have an insta-wreath form.

I chose this particular frame because of the width of the front of it. That is a lot of decorative real estate!

I painted it white using acrylic paint. It took 3 coats for good coverage. This gave me a blank canvas to work with.

 I have a small heart stamp in my craft stash that I used to create rows of hearts along the bottom of the frame. I used red acrylic paint with the stamp which made each heart different and imperfect. The easiest way to use paint with a stamp is to dip the stamp in a shallow pool of paint then daub, daub, daub until there is barely any paint left on the stamp. Then it is time to apply the stamp to your surface.

To hang the wreath, cut a length of ribbon and wrap it around the top of the frame. Tie a tight knot and trim off the excess ribbon. Set aside for a moment.

Tie a pretty bow with more ribbon, leaving the ends long. We will trim them later.

Take a 4″ piece of ribbon and wrap it around the middle of the bow, knotting the back tightly. Set the bow aside for a moment.

Going back to the frame, take a 6″ piece of ribbon and tie it around the end of the ribbon currently on the frame leaving a small loop. This will allow you to hang the ribbon.

Take the bow and tie it around the knot of the ribbon attached to the frame. Pull the loop up behind the bow. Now we’re just about ready to hang!

Trim the ends of the bow, and your new Valentine’s Day wreath is all set to go!

I think the subtly of the hearts in the red and white color scheme are perfect for the front door.

And, of course, you could decorate the frame any way you see fit!
