Social Saturday - Death of the RSVP
This last week has been, in a word, blech.
Between a small oven fire, playing the role of single parent for 3 nights straight to a baby and potty training toddler, and other things that would probably just gross you out...
Let's just say I'm glad its the weekend and am looking forward to getting a few projects done for my 3 year old's birthday party next weekend!
Speaking of birthday parties (or baby showers or any kind of party for that matter)...
What has happened to the RSVP?
I sent out birthday invites a few weeks ago and requested everyone RSVP by tomorrow. I have heard of a grand total of 4 people! And I can guarantee you that I won't hear from anyone else (unless they read this blog post) tomorrow. It seems the RSVP has gone by the way side.
Unfortunately its like this every year for our birthday parties, but I've also experienced it for other events I've helped throw for others. Do people no longer feel obligated to RSVP even if its requested? I do. Am I alone in that?
I'm curious what you think! Do you RSVP? If not, why not?
Maybe next year I'll request regrets only.
And if someone doesn't show up and never lets me know they weren't coming I'll send them a bill for their share of the food. 😉
On to some FUN things!

Last weekend's blogger meetup was fun and full of helpful information, as per usual!
Gina at The Shabby Creek Cottage did a great write up of our get together if you're so inclined to head over there and read it.
In case you missed it on my Facbook page, I shared some fun Halloween finds from a trip to Home Goods this last week. Be sure to check it out!
Also, thanks to my friend Angie, I discovered the cutest Etsy shop recently, 58 & Grace!
Whitney, the shop owner is super sweet and is helping make my son's train-themed party next weekend even more fun.
In looking around 58 & Grace (which is full of some seriously yummy vintage goodies), I noticed Whitney had recently sold some vintage train tickets. But she didn't appear to have any more in stock. I convo'd her to see if perhaps there might be more laying around and she promptly wrote me back that she dug around and found a few more for me! Yay!
Aren't they great! (And don't you love how Whitney wrapped them up?)
I can't wait to incorporate them into our train decor!
Thanks, Whitney!!
Okay, I really need to get back to party planning. Have a great weekend, y'all!

As a matter of fact, I always try to RSVP. I was terribly frustrated a couple weeks ago when approximately a dozen friends RSVPed yes and then NONE of them showed up! On the same day, I left an event early to go to a birthday BBQ my friend emailed me about (AND I had responded yes). I texted her to find the address (which she hadn't included in the invite) and she responded that it was cancelled. I HAD RSVPed! Wow. Just wow.
I still RSVP but I agree - it seems to be dying. (along with other common courtesies, but that's a whole other comment lol)
Your blog get together looks so fun and that purple pumpkin is seriously calling my name. I think I need to hunt up the nearest Home Goods. I have no idea if they're even in CA!
See? Now I'm losing it... They are due NEXT week - not in 2 weeks!
I'm getting married in 42 days. RSVP's are due in 2 weeks & out of the 150 invited, I've received less than 20 cards back. My response cards are post cards ~ all they have to do is mark if they're coming & drop it in the mail. Not hard. I feel ya on this one! 🙁
I call them and ask them if they are coming and how many. I don't like too many party leftovers!! 🙂
Thanks for the shout out too!! 🙂 Those tickets are AMAZING!!
I always RSVP. I don't understand why people can't take the time to do it. When .my daughter was married 6 years ago, we had to call so many people to see if they planned to come. She had a sit down dinner with a choice of meats. What else could we do? It's very thoughtless of people.
I always RSVP and I always write thank yous. Whatever happened to both?
You should always RSVP. I need to know in advance how many I'll be feeding, seating, etc. With communication so easy these days, there's just no excuse. I hope manners come back into style soon. ; )
I ALWAYS rsvp to all invitations from individuals for social (non-home party they want me to buy something) events. This is only proper!!
If it is a fundraiser that is soliciting my attendance, I have to admit that I often don't take the time to rsvp unless I plan on attending....
My daughter is getting married in three weeks... we had to FOLLOW UP on HALF of the RSVPs for her wedding. I was shocked!!
I wonder if people even know what "RSVP" means anymore. It drives me crazy, especially on evite, when you can see when they've looked at the evite, but not responded!
People just don't RSVP anymore and it is annoying! I actually had to call out my mom because she didn't RSVP to my baby shower (that my sister in law was hosting). So it isn't just our generation that is dropping the ball!
I always RSVP....it's rude not to!
Also, if I plan something and people don't RSVP I'm on the phone to them the day after the due date....OCD is not helpful in these situations lol xx
I believe in RSVP if there is food involved. It's so hard to plan food if you don't know the numbers that will be there.
