I can’t decide whether I’m more excited, or my soon to be 10 year is more excited about his upcoming Harry Potter-themed birthday party!
Last year for his 9th birthday we gave him the first Harry Potter book, and he has become completely obsessed with the entire wizarding world.
Big surprise, right?
I think everyone who reads the books and watches the movies does!
Even my 7 year old just finished the first book!
While looking for a fun idea for the invitation, I saw that most out there styled as letters from Hogwarts.
Which is fun, but a bit plain.
I thought a Daily Prophet inspired invite could be really fun, but I didn’t see any out there.
So I made one as our Harry Potter birthday invitation!
And I am OBSESSED with how it turned out!
Harry Potter Birthday Invitation Details
The entire invitation is styled to look like the “real” Daily Prophet, right down to the fonts and wording.
The background of the newspaper even has a grayish hue to it to match the newspapers in the movies.
Most of the Daily Prophets seen in the movies have a main headline and then other smaller stories.
Obviously my headline is all about the birthday boy!
For filler at the bottom of the invitation, I included several “ads” and smaller stories.
And fitting with the movie version of the newspaper, there are also other “pages” referred to along the bottom for further reading.
Although this is a one page newspaper since it’s an invitation after all.
I’m particularly tickled with the Fluffy and Muggles ads. Ha!
I took a photo of my little wizard in his Harry Potter attire to add to the invitation and made it black and white to fit with the rest of the invite.
There’s plenty of room for the party details and discussion of what to expect at the party.
And, yes, I do plan for us to play Quidditch!
Hopefully the weather will cooperate.
We will also be making wands, practicing spells, and having a potions class.
Did you see my life-size cutout of Snape on my Instagram???
If not you totally need to check it out.
Instagram face filters work on him and it is hilarious!
The invitation is roughly 5″x7″ so you can keep it as is.
Or do as I chose to do and fold it up like an actual newspaper!
All you need to do it make two folds 1/3 from each end of the invite.
The size of the invitation now will fit nicely in a 4″x5.5″ envelope.
Won’t the Daily Prophet be a fun surprise to pull out of the envelope!
Because these mailers can’t be sent by owl post, I made some owl labels for the backs of all of the envelopes.
If you like them, you can find the printable file for a small fee in my Etsy shop.
And I found these cute stag stickers at Hobby Lobby in their stationary section that are perfect Patronus sealers!
These have all been set out in the mail and the party is in just a couple of weeks.
I can’t wait to share all of the fun details with you!
So many more things to prep in the meantime.
Don’t forget, if you’re interested, this Harry Potter birthday invitation can be found in my Etsy shop!

I love unique, custom invitations like this. I make my own kids birthday invites as they are not only creative but great mementos of that moment in their life. Visiting from Pretty Pintastic Party.
