Pikachu & Trainer Ash Ketchum Costumes

Make your little Pokémon fans their own Pikachu and Ash Ketchum costumes for Halloween or play!

Make your little Pokémon fans their own Pikachu and Ash Ketchum costumes for Halloween or play!I was completely last minute with my kids’ Halloween costumes this year. I think I’ve been away from home more days than actually home the month of October! At least that is the excuse I am going with. But my kids DID have Halloween costumes, they were the characters they wanted to be, AND they loved how they turned out so I’m totally calling it a win!

Both were DIYs but in completely different ways. And both turned out to be so much simpler than I could have imagined!

Make your little Pokémon fans their own Pikachu and Ash Ketchum costumes for Halloween or play! For my little Pikachu, I was hoping to find some yellow sweats or at least some white ones I could dye yellow and make that the base of the costume. Well those things don’t exist where you can order them 5 days before Halloween and have them show up in plenty of time (and NOTHING in stores). No costumes available by this point either.

We totally lucked up finding this Pikachu ADULT onesie pajama at Kmart. I snagged a small and altered the heck out of it to fit my 5 year old!

How adorable is he??? I ended up hemming the arms and legs and cutting off at least a foot and a half of fabric. I also tightened up the hoodie so it fit his head better. All in all it took about an hour’s worth of work to get it down to his size.

Make your little Pokémon fans their own Pikachu and Ash Ketchum costumes for Halloween or play!My little Pokémon trainer Ash was a little bit easier. I mainly had a hard time find a red and white trucker hat. No one had them in stores and Amazon wasn’t going to get here on time. Sooooo… I ordered an all white trucker hat that would arrive in time and spray painted it red!

I taped off the front white part of the hat and sprayed one good coat of red spray paint on the rest of the hat. It worked great! It’ll wear over time, but the hat is just for play so I’m not worried about it. I used a Tulip fabric paint to draw the symbol on the front of the hat.

For Ash’s jacket, I purchased a plain blue t-shirt and a plain white t-shirt. I cut the sleeves off of both shirts and sewed the white sleeves onto the blue shirt.

I cut open the front of the shirt and stitched on a 22″ yellow zipper and trimmed it as needed. To complete the look, I fold two rectangles of yellow fabric and stitches them to each side of the shirt to look like pockets.

A pair of $1 gloves that I cut the fingertips off of finished off the costume. My son received the Pokéball belt for his birthday and was able to add that to his costume as well.

I love that the boys wanted to be matchy matchy this year! It’s so fun to pair their costumes together. And even more fun for me to make them knowing they will be used well beyond Halloween.
